Getting Started

It's been busy these past few months in my household. I have family members who suffer from depression, and getting the medication straightened out has always been a roller coaster of a ride. Trying to help while also balancing stress from a job and personal projects I keep inventing as of late has been an experience, to say the least, so I decided I would take some time and write and wondered if maybe what I had to say would help others. The additional struggle with getting medication sorted out along with fighting insurance companies has been.. uhm.. wonderful.

I know that there are other websites and resources such as The Mighty which have excellent posts that can expound way more than this blog can. As stated, the goal for this blog is just a bit of a personal exercise.

We recently joined NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) and I've been taking their Family to Family course. It's a great educational course for helping those who have family members who suffer from mental illness to get some education and perspective on their loved ones situation.

I also listen to a ton of podcasts and audio books in between working at a desk all day and sitting in traffic and one podcast that I've added to my catcher has been The Mental Illness Happy Hour. It's been pretty great at helping empathize the situations that those with mental illness go through.

The title of this blog, by the way, comes from this post on tumbler which my family explains to me is what it feels like when you live with mental illness.

I'll use this post to share some lessons learned as well links to resources that I've found useful from time to time. I'm hoping that this blog will be useful to others - the whole point of the creation of the internet was to share information, and I'm hoping this blog will serve in some small way to compliment that.
